Oregon is known for its diverse landscapes, from beautiful coastlines and dense forests to the towering peaks of the Cascade Range. With mountains like Mount Hood nearby, skiing and snowboarding have long been part of the local culture. Enthusiasts from across the region come every winter to enjoy the slopes. Now, for the first time, skiing is available indoors! Just outside Portland in Beaverton, PTO Ski & Snowboard has opened Oregon’s first indoor ski and snowboard facility, offering year-round access to snow sports in a way Oregon has never seen before!

A New Chapter for Snow Sports in Oregon

In June 2024, our team of engineers traveled to Portland to turn this vision into reality. They installed Oregon’s first indoor SkiMachines in Beaverton. Each Skimachine has a surface measuring 6 meters wide by 12 meters long (20 feet wide by 40 feet long), providing plenty of space for skiers and snowboarders to practice, improve, and have fun. During long days of installation and fine-tuning the slope, the team also took time to explore Oregon’s natural beauty. They visited Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge, a breathtaking waterfall with the famous Benson Bridge. It was a perfect reminder of the landscapes that make Oregon an ideal home for snow sports, both outdoors in the mountains and now indoors at PTO Ski!

More Than Just a Slope

In partnership with SkiMachine, PTO Ski & Snowboard has created a year-round snow experience that brings the thrill of skiing and snowboarding indoors. Every detail, from the slope’s design to the materials used, has been carefully crafted to feel like real snow while offering the convenience and consistency that only an indoor facility can provide. Traditional ski lessons often require long drives to the mountains, with trips to Mount Hood taking at least an hour and other resorts requiring even more travel time, not to mention the added cost of lift tickets and equipment rentals, which can make learning to ski or snowboard expensive and time-consuming. PTO Ski eliminates these obstacles by providing an affordable and convenient alternative, allowing people to practice, take lessons, or simply enjoy skiing without committing to a full mountain trip.

Why spend a fortune only to fall behind in traditional mountain ski classes while your friends glide down the slopes together? By learning indoors first, you can build your skills more efficiently, gain confidence, and hit the slopes ready to keep up with your friends from day one!

Oregons Ski Community

With 15 ski resorts across the state, Oregon already has a strong and passionate skiing community. The opening of the state’s first indoor ski facility adds an exciting new dimension, giving skiers and snowboarders even more opportunities to engage with the sport. PTO Ski builds on this enthusiasm by offering a year-round training space where people can improve their skills and stay connected to snow sports, regardless of weather or travel constraints. In just six months, PTO Ski has logged over 1300 appointments, delivered more than 1100 teaching hours, and welcomed over 750 satisfied customers, showing that indoor snow sports are rapidly gaining popularity in Oregon while providing a platform for people to progress and enjoy skiing and snowboarding at every level!

From day one, SkiMachine has exceeded our expectations. Excellent machines, excellent people, excellent partnership!

Ski Shop Meets SkiMachine

PTO Ski & Snowboard brings together retail and training in a single location, allowing customers to gear up and ride immediately rather than purchasing equipment and waiting weeks to test it on real snow in the mountains. This integrated setup benefits both customers and the business, as the ski shop drives sales of premium equipment while the slope keeps people engaged through lessons, memberships, and repeat visits. By combining high-quality gear with hands-on training, the facility creates a cycle where better equipment supports better performance, and better performance encourages long-term investment in the sport. Even customers who initially come in just to buy skis or boots often find themselves drawn to the SkiMachine, stepping onto the slope for the first time and discovering the feel and experience of training indoors. With PTO Ski leading the way, the future of indoor skiing in Oregon looks brighter than ever, promising to inspire new snow sports enthusiasts and grow the state’s snow sports community even further!
